IC is often poorly understood, and many myths stand in the way of patient care. We explore these in more depth in The Interstitial Cystitis Solution, and always want to provide practical, positive information for patients and practitioners. We offer an Out-of-Town program, remote consultations, and a Facebook support group for patients called Finding Pelvic Sanity.
Interstitial cystitis is a complex condition that is poorly understood - even by many physicians - which can give rise to myths that harm patient care. Some of these myths may have a kernel of truth, while others are based on outdated research or disproven assumptions about the condition.
Fortunately, the pace of research about IC is increasing, and many of the most important studies have been conducted in just the last few years. Unfortunately, that means that much of the information out there about the condition is faulty or out of date.
In this series, we'll be examining each of these myths in detail - where they came from, the truth behind the myth, and why it's important for patients and practitioners to recognize.
Do any of these sound familiar to you?
Read on to find out the truth about these myths, and feel free to join the online Facebook community Finding Pelvic Sanity for support and resources!
